MEI Bill Acceptor Helps Floral Kiosks Blossom

Bill acceptor proves a critical component of new self-service system

WEST CHESTER, Pa., October 18, 2007 – MEI announces that its Series 2000 bill acceptor has been integrated into 24Hour Florist’s new floral vending kiosk, enabling customers to purchase flower arrangements using cash, debit or credit. Local florists can now extend their retail presence beyond their brick and mortar stores to high-traffic areas like hospitals, shopping malls, hotels and office buildings.

The 24Hour Florist kiosk is like a vending machine for pre-made floral arrangements. Buyers select flower arrangements from a refrigerated case and pay for them using their payment method of choice. Using the kiosk’s touchscreen, buyers can take the arrangements with them immediately or place orders for nationwide deliveries. Using this kiosk, local florists avoid using middlemen and brokers such as FTD that often take a large percentage of their profits.

24Hour Florist selected the MEI Series 2000 bill acceptor based on its proven performance in kiosks and other self-service applications over the past eight years. The MEI bill acceptor features high acceptance rates, low jam rates, a remote update capability and the latest counterfeit detection technology. The company was able to integrate the product easily because it was available with a USB interface.

24Hour Florist considered the bill acceptor a critical component to the success of the floral kiosk. “We have found that many flower buyers prefer to make anonymous purchases with cash,” said Darren Vallaire, head of technical development for 24Hour Florist. “Some of our beta testers reported that cash sales represent nearly 50 percent of transactions.”
